The Red File Part 2

Dallas
Season 1 Episode 23
Air Date:  February 9, 1979

Recap:  Jock asks Miss Ellie if Bobby is coming to come out of his room, he just doesn’t understand that he loves Pam.  Miss Ellie brings Bobby up something for breakfast since he missed breakfast.  He complains about how the Ewing’s are only after money, and he tells her she doesn’t understand anymore than the rest of the family.  She tells him that Jock isn’t responsible for Digger becoming the way he was, she knows him better than anyone, and says that he would have become a drunk with or without Jock.  She tells him that Cliff has a vendetta just like Digger against the family.  Bobby calls Pam and tells her that Liz called, and let her know that The Store has put her on a leave of absence until Cliff’s trial is over.
Sue Ellen asks JR if he’s happy about Cliff getting arrested and jailed.  She tells him he’s just jealous of Cliff, he tells her not to flatter herself.

Bobby asks JR if he set up Cliff, JR denies it.

Willie Joe and Jeb are at JR’s office and tell him how sorry they are about Julie, JR tells them to get to the point.  They are concerned about what she had from the red file.  JR tells them that they have nothing to worry about.

Bobby goes to the jail to meet Pam, he asks how Cliff is doing, she tells him that he’s fine under the circumstances.  She tells Bobby that she can’t go back to Southfork, and that she’s confused about what she’s feeling, he asks if she’s confused about her feeling for him, she says not, but that she won’t go back.  He tells her he’s going to see Cliff.

Cliff is with his lawyer, when Bobby comes in.  Bobby asks if there is anything he can do.  Cliff tells him that the Ewing’s have done enough.  Bobby insists that he wants to help, so Cliff tells him the best thing he can do is find out who really killed Julie.

They are having an inquest to see if there is enough evidence to go to the grand jury, the DA is questioning the coroner, they talk about the bruises found on Julie’s body, Cliff’s lawyer asks if it’s possible that she caused the bruises herself.  The police report about all the fingerprints they found of Cliff’s in her apartment, but that they didn’t find any on the roof.  Julie’s neighbor tells them that he rode up with her on the elevator and that he walked right inside.  When its JR’s turn to take the stand Sue Ellen wants to leave, but he makes her stay telling her she needs to act the perfect wife for the court.  They question JR about the files she took from Ewing Oil and her affair with Cliff.

During recess Bobby asks if the tape will be admissible.  Cliff wants Pam to get his mail, but she will have to take the stand soon, so Bobby goes for her.  He brings back the mail and a new shirt for Cliff.  Cliff gets the letter from Julie, inside it’s a pawn ticket and a key.  Bobby offers to check into it, Cliff thinks about it a minute, but gives it to him.

Bobby goes to the pawn shop and gets the suitcase that Julie pawned, when he gets outside he opens the brief case he finds all the copies from the red file, then he finds the copy of the will.

On the stand Pam is asked about Julie and Cliff, and about all of Cliff’s affairs, she doesn’t say anything about Sue Ellen.  Cliff doesn’t let his lawyer cross examine her, she apologizes to him, he tells her she did what she had to.

At Ewing Oil Bobby sends both secretaries home, and goes into JR’s office, he’s on the phone, but Bobby disconnects the call and confronts JR with the copies of the files.  JR tells Bobby that the forged will was just a business maneuver.  Bobby asks him if he had anything to do with Julie, he tells Bobby that he had the private investigator tapping Cliff’s phones, and that’s how he knew about the call.  Bobby goes to the office of the private investigator and gets him to tell him who else knew about the phone call Julie made to Cliff, he has to threaten him to get him to reveal that he told Willie Joe and Jeb about the phone call.

When Bobby gets to Willie Joe and Jeb’s office their secretary tells Bobby that they went to the airport to go to Alaska, he gets her to call the airport, he takes the phone and asks for security, he asks the security guard to hold Willie Joe and Jeb till he gets there.  He gives the secretary money to buy more of her perfume.

Back at the court house, Cliff asks Pam if Bobby is back, they don’t think that they can stop the tape from being admitted into the trial, because Julie knew that she was being recorded on Cliffs’ answering machine.

At the airport the security guard pulls Willie Joe and Jeb out of the line and takes them to his office, when Bobby gets there he goes out to the hall.  Bobby confronts them with the copies, they say that if he goes to the police with the copies that JR will get in to as much trouble as them, but Bobby says that it’s only copies of checks and other bribes with their names on it, JR is clean.  They admit that it was only an accident.  Bobby tells them that they better confess or he’ll give the police the copies and it will be murder one not manslaughter.

Cliff is released and cleared of all charges, he asks Bobby what he did, and what he found at the pawn shop.  He tells him that there was nothing at the pawn shop, whatever it was, was sold.  Bobby tells him to forget it, but Cliff tells him that he can’t do that.  He knows that whatever it was JR was behind it.

At Ewing Oil, JR follows Bobby into the office, he wants to know if Bobby is going to tell Jock about the will, Bobby burn both copies and tells him that he won’t but he’s got JR’s number.  JR tells Bobby that he’s lost all his power with the cartel.

Pam and Bobby are walking together, she asks what he found, but he won’t tell her what he found out either.  He wants her to come back to Southfork now that Cliff has been released, but she tells him she can’t because she can’t see across from JR at the dinner table.  He tells her that she can call him when she’s ready to deal with the fact that he’s a Ewing, just like he was when she married him.

Final Thoughts:  I'm glad that this story line only lasted two episodes, I thought it was a better than the first half.  I thought the court scenes were better written than the court scenes on Dynasty were.

Best Outfit:  I couldn't find anything that I really thought was hideous, this is bad, but it just looks really cheap.

JR tels Jock he needs to stay away from Julie, causes she trouble.  Jock tells him that he'll see whoever he wants whenever he wants to.  Miss Ellie asks Jock why he was arguing with JR, but he doesn't tell her.  She goes to JR, who is more than happy to tell her, even though he does his best to act like he doesn't want to give her the bad news, that Jock is seeing Julie.
Miss Ellie goes up stair and asks Jock what he does in town, he tells her it isn't important, he leaves and she makes a phone call to Julie.  Julie comes to see Miss Ellie at Southfork, and they talk about Julie and Jock's relationship, Julie tells her that they are only friends, but Miss Ellie tells her that it needs to stop.

Jock gives Julie the necklace he bought earlier, she asks if it is a hello gift or a good bye gift.  He tells her that he doesn't know what he wants, but he doesn't want to hurt Miss Ellie, Julie tells him that she'll miss him and to go home.
Outside Julie's apartment Jock meets Miss Ellie, he apologizes for what he's done, she forgives him and they go home together.  They were being watched from across the street by JR, he goes to Julie's apartment, she tell him to get out, but he forces his way inside and takes her into his arms and kisses her.
Final Thoughts:  This episode was full on soap opera, with the love triangle, the younger woman.  I feel like something is building here, but will have to wait and see what is going to happen next.

Best Outfit:  I choose this because of the sleeves on this sweater dress, and the fur scarf thing she's got, it's the best thing to wear when you are trying to apologize for destroying a man's career and almost a whole business.
Fight Count:  2 (Jock vs JR and Bobby) (Bobby vs JR)

Recap:  Fallon wants Jeff to take her out since her car is in the shop again, but he just wants to hang out by the pool, they argue about her behavior at the party, it all ends with him pushing her into the pool.
Steven meets Claudia, she wants to know what’s wrong, he tells her that Ted stayed with him last night, he tells her that he didn’t want it to happen.  She starts to leave, he tells her to stay so he can explain.  She goes to see Matthew, she tells him she wants to get away and start over again somewhere else, he wants to know what she’s running away from, this is how her breakdown started.  He tells her he doesn’t want to go anywhere else, this business was the new start.
Krystle and Blake go to an appraiser, the jeweler tells him that the necklace is worth $70,000, Krystle is very confused, Blake tells the jeweler that they will keep the necklace after all.  Back at the mansion, Blake asks Krystle what’s wrong, she tells him that she wants to know when his obsession with Matthew and her will stop.  She tells him that he keeps her locked away like Rapunzel only letting her out when he wants to show her off.
Blake leaves to take Steven his gift, Joseph doesn’t like the way Krystle speaks to him.  When she tells him she will tell Blake about the way he’s speaking to her, he tells her that since Blake isn’t too happy with her, he doesn’t think she’ll go to Blake.  This guy needs to get it through his head that he needs to be respectful of her as well, just because Blake is that way with her doesn’t mean he can too.
When Blake gets to Steven’s, Ted answers the door.  They talk about Princeton, and I think Blake is trying to catch Ted in a lie, but Steven comes home, and Ted goes to finish getting dressed and leaves them.  Blake gives Steven the gift, it’s an ice bucket and a brass cricket.  Blake wants to know if he will come to dinner, but Steven tells him that he and Ted have plans, but he’ll be over tomorrow to get the rest of his stuff.
Michael tells Fallon that she needs to take better care of her car, and as usual he tries to kiss her, not sure when this guy is going to get the hint that she only comes to him when she wants to, and the rest of the time she hardly knows he exists.
After dinner Ted tells Steven that Denver is ok, but he wants to know if Steven misses New York, Steven tells him that he does.  Ted wants to go to a movie, but Steven says that he needs to go study.  Ted blames the change in Steven on Blake.
Ted goes to see Claudia instead, they go to the back and she tells him that she always knew that they would meet.  She tells him that he doesn’t know anything about her and Steven when he tries to make it seem like she trying to change him, so she feels like a real woman.  Ted asks if she’s going to give up Steven, she asks him the same question.  He says that this is tearing Steven apart.  He tells her that he’s sorry and that he wanted to hate her, but he just can’t.
Blake is in a drunken stupor at his desk, at first I thought it was going to go into a dream sequence since the lighting was a bit off.  Joseph listens in on the servants talking about Blake and Krystle, they seem to be on her side, which pisses Joseph off, and he tells them exactly what he thinks.  Joseph brings Blake upstairs and puts in bed.  Krystle talks to him even though he’s sleeping.  She says that he scares her, and that she loves him, but she can’t live with him.
The next morning Blake asks where Krystle is when he sees her car in the front, Joseph tells him she took a taxi and would be sending him a letter explaining everything.  Blake tells Joseph that he knows he’s glad she’s gone, but says that she will be back, he admits that he was too hard on her and should have given her a chance to explain.
Krystle makes a phone call at a phone booth, she tells Matthew that she’s calling to say goodbye, and he says that he wants to meet.

Ted comes back to the apartment, there’s a note for him on the phone, and it’s from Steven.  He tells Ted that he wants to break things off.                                                                                                 Matthew and Krystle meet up on a mountain, they kiss and he tells her he still wants her, she reminds him that he has a wife and daughter, and one day he will regret his choices.                                                                                                                                                            Steven is packing the last of his stuff, when Ted comes into his room, Steven tells him that he wasn’t invited to his father’s house.  He tells Ted that he’s going to go back to his apartment alone, and that he won’t be seeing Claudia anymore.  Ted just won’t take no for an answer, and wants Steven to come back to New York with him.  Steven tells him no, and that if Ted really loved him like Steven loved him then he would understand.  Finally something got threw his thick skull.     Blake gets home and Joseph tells him that Krystle isn’t home, Fallon is upstairs and that Steven is upstairs with his friend Ted.  Blake gets really mad and runs up the stairs.  He bursts into Steven’s room as he and Ted are hugging goodbye.  There is a struggle and Ted falls to the floor hitting his head on the railing around the fireplace.  Fallon is standing in the door shocked.  Steven rushes to Ted and says to Blake that he killed him.                                                                                           Final Thoughts:  This was a good episode, I feel bad that Ted died, but I am relieved that I won't have to see his face anymore, he was just so whiny, "Steven come back to New York" "Steven you don't really know what you want, I know what you want."  I loved it when he told Ted that if he really loved him that he would understand, that really got to him.  I liked Claudia standing up to Ted to.  I'm getting tired of the whole Blake and Krystle thing though, get over her past already.  And Joseph needs to get over himself too, he may have known Blake longer, now he's seem like he's jealous of her relationship with Blake.
Best Oufit:  Look at those pants.
Fight Count:  1 (Blake vs Ted)
