Hitchhike Part One

Knots Landing
Season 2 Episode 1
Original Airdate: November 20, 1980

Recap:  Sid is driving to the high school for the Knots Landing High Follies.  Karen is backstage with Diana, she looks out and sees that Sid still isn’t there.  Sid stops at a red light and a girl comes up to his window and asks him for a ride.  He tells her no, and drives away.  He sees a van pull up to the girl and sees that the driver is talking to the girl.  He turns around and tells the girl to get in, and drives away, the van follows them.
At the high school, Karen is still backstage helping Diana get ready to go on stage.
The girl tells Sid that her name is Pamela, she asks him how much money he has on him.  She asks him to give her a $100 so she can go see her mom.  Sid tells her that he’ll take her to the bus station and buy her a ticket.
Diana is now on stage with her two friends, they are doing a dance number, something you would see in a Bob Fosse show.
Pamela tells Sid that if he doesn’t give her the money she will cry rape.  They are passing a diner and there are cops outside, Sid tells her that now’s her chance.  She waits a bit till they are closer then grabs the wheel and cries out.  The police arrest Sid.
At the jail, a cop recognizes Sid, he looks at the girl’s statement and asks her if that is what happened, she says yes.  He asks if Sid got his phone call, he then takes him into his office.
Richard and Laura are getting ready for bed when the phone rings, Richard tells Sid that he’ll be right there, and bring Karen with him.
At the station, the cop tells Sid that he doesn’t think that this will go any further, Karen goes to the window and watches the girl flirting with the other officers.  Pamela sees that Sid is getting to go home, she starts yelling at Karen about what he did to her.
Karen tells Sid that she thinks that they need to get a different lawyer, but Sid says that he trusts Richard to do it, she tells him that Richard is going to go talk to Pamela, he tells her that he was thinking of going to see her himself, she gets upset and tells him that she could accuse him again, and that he should just let Richard handle it.  Sid’s sister Abby gets to their house, her daughter is now repeating everything everyone says, and her son doesn’t talk only plays his trumpet.
Later that night they have the neighbors over, Laura is telling Karen how much she is enjoying her job.  The doorbell rings and its Kenny, Ginger doesn’t look too thrilled to see him, they are separated, he wants to talk, but she tells him to go back to Sylvie.  Karen goes into the kitchen and is trying to decide if she wants to make a phone call, Sid asks her what she is doing, she tells him that she wants to hire a criminal lawyer; she tells him that she doesn’t think that Pamela will drop the case.  He tells her not to panic and they rejoin the party.  Val goes upstairs and talks to Abby’s daughter Olivia, after getting her to stop repeating everything she says, Olivia tells Val that her parents are getting divorced.  Gary tells Karen that he thinks that they should get another lawyers opinion.
The next morning, Eric and Michael tell Abby’s son Brian to bring in the paper to their parents, he wakes them up by blowing on his trumpet, Karen shows Sid the paper, the headline is about the charges.  Later on Karen gets the name of another attorney and calls him.
Michael gets into a fight at the beach over the story in the newspaper.
Laura is with the realtor, they are showing the empty house in the cul-de-sac.  They seem to like they house, when they start to walk along the sidewalk, they see the name Fairgate on the mailbox, they ask the realtor about it, he tells Laura she should have told him that the Fairgate’s were her neighbors.
Karen is reading the girl’s interview, the lawyer, Stan Lesser gives them some advice, he tells them to keep Richard as their lawyer, and that there is a good former criminal lawyer working at Richard’s law firm.  Michael gets home, and they can see that he is upset, Eric asks Sid why he had to pick up that girl in the first place.
At the high school, Diana over hears a friend of hers talking about the time Sid took her home, and how he didn’t try to do anything to her.
Sid notices that everyone is looking at him at the dealership.
Richard goes over to Pamela’s apartment, he tells her that he wants to talk, he tells her that she is ruining Sid’s reputation, she asks him about her reputation.  He proceeds to try and bribe her into dropping the charges, by telling her that she could get some surfing stuff from a friend of his, and that she could spend some time at a house of a friend of his, that is by the ocean.
Karen tells Sid that they need to get another lawyer if he is indited.
Richard is called to his boss’s office, he wants to know about the case, he tells him that he could get some help, but Richard tells him that he’s got it under control.
Richard goes back to Pamela’s apartment to take her to the station so she can drop the charges, but her mother is there, she tells Richard that they won’t be bought.  Richard tells Pamela that the stuff she got isn’t free, that she will get a discount for it.  Her mother tells him to get out, she tells him that they are going to trial and that they aren’t ashamed to air their dirty laundry.
In the courtroom the judge rules that there is enough evidence to go to trial and Sid is indited for the attempted rape.  Richard tries to calm Karen down, and tells her that there is no case, and it’s only a formality.  She says that Sid will be the first man to be convicted on no case.
Final Thoughts:  I hate Richard, he is the worst lawyer.  I would never have kept him, maybe get his advice, then gone out and found some one more competent, not someone who is so full of himself.  He pretty much screwed Sid, buy trying to bribe Pamela.

The Lie

Knots Landing
Season 1 Episode 4
Air Date:  January 17, 1980

Recap:  Everyone on the cul de sac are reading the morning paper, there is a rapist, in the neighborhood, and he struck again, everyone is concerned about this but Richard is more concerned about losing money on some stocks.  He isnt’ happy with anything she does, his orange juice has seeds in it and she made him fried eggs.  She and Val were supposed to go to the community center to help Karen, but she tells Val that she forgot about her dentist appointment, she drops Val off at the center.  She goes to a bar, she is a regular there, all the men there are staring at her.  One man comes over and lights her cigarette, he tells her that he’s noticed her and shows her a drawing that he did of her.
They go back to hi s place so he can draw her.  He sits her down in a chair musses her hair up and unbuttons a few buttons I was just glad that he didn’t pose her like Rose from Titanic then kisses her, she tells him to stop, he asks her what she expected when she came to his place, she says that he was said he was going to paint her.  He goes after her and tears the sleeve of her dress and throws her to the bed, she struggles, but soon gives up.
Karen and Val get home, and Diana gets out of another car, Karen asks who that was, and Diana tells her that she hitched a ride from someone, Karen grounds her.  Val walks back to her house and sees Laura get home, and run into the house, she can see that something is wrong.  A few moments later Richard comes home too, but is too busy to stop when Val calls to him.
Inside Richard is looking for something, he finds Laura in the bedroom, and asks her what happened when he sees her torn dress and her cut lip.  He asks what happened, she doesn’t speak, and he assumes that she was the next victim of the rapist, he lead her to the bed and asks her if he hurt her, and asks her if it happened at the house, she nods.  He says that he’s going to call the police, she tries to stop him, but he calls the doctor then the police.
Val, Karen and Ginger are sitting in the living room, and ask Richard how Laura is, he tells them that she was attacked 15 minutes before he got home, if he didn’t stop at the bank he could have stopped the attack.  When Val hears this she knows that this is a lie.
They all go to Karen’s they talk about the attack and Diana runs to her room, and Karen goes after her, she can’t understand why this happened, and tells her mother that she’s learned her lesson and won’t go hitchhiking anymore, the whole scene is like an after school special
Kenny joins Gary and Sid they talk about what happened and Sid says that he’s like to go patrol the streets and try to get the rapist himself.
Richard gets into bed and asks Laura if she’s still awake, he tells her that they will get that guy and they will throw the book at him.  She tells him to stop talking.
Val goes to Laura’s and finds her scrubbing the floors, Richard calls and tells her that she needs to go to the police station, they got a suspect in custody and she needs to go identify him.  Val offers to go with her.
Before Laura goes in another lady comes out and says that she knew the man right away because of his scar uh-oh this would never happen on Law and Order.  Laura goes in and looks at the line up well it’s not really a line up they got like 4 guys still around a table, Laura tries to say she doesn’t remember what he looks like, then id’s the guy with the scar, the detective asks if she’s sure, Laura says yes.  The detective told her to try to remember the guy and mention if she remembers any details about the guy “like a scar” where was this guys lawyer, if this was Law and Order, this guy would have been released.  So the detective says that he’s the one since he’s been id'd by 3 different women.
The three of them leave and Richard is pretty pleased with the results till they see the guy getting into a car, he asks the detective what’s going on.  She tells him that he’s got an alibi for the time Laura says she was raped, so if she was wrong the other women could be wrong too.  Richard and Laura go, Laura knows that Val knows that she was lying now.
Jason, Richard and Laura’s son finds the drawing in her purse, she gets upset with Richard when he says that he likes it and wants to hang it up at his office.
Karen is still on the curb with Gary and Val, they decide to take Laura out for lunch.  They ask Richard how she’s doing, Karen suggest that Laura might need someone to talk to, Gary asks if she means a therapist, Karen says no, friends, because rape is a female experience.  I guess that male rape wosn’t a issue in the late 70’s.
Gary asks Val what’s bothering her, she tells him that she thinks that they just need to give Laura some time.
Karen asks Sid what they should talk to Laura about, he tells her that she is wounded and needs time to heal, and that they should just talk about what they always talk about.
Richard tells Laura that he loves her and that he’s there whenever she needs him, she starts to cry and he tells her it’s okay and that he’s there for her.
At lunch Val is very quiet, Laura tells them that she is going to start going to the community center to help Karen and start taking some cooking classes.  They are toasting, when Laura sees the man, she drops  her glass and tells them that she wants to go, as she passes she realizes that it isn’t him after all.  At home Val follows Laura inside, she tells her that if she feels like talking, but Laura tells her that she knows everything already.  But then she begins to tell her about her past, she was the girl that no one ever noticed, she had to do things to get attention, and when she was older, she was with a lot of men, but Richard was the only one who came back.  She quit college to put him through law school, and she felt important and special that he needed her, but things changed and now she feels left out, since he and Jason are so close.  Val tells her that she doesn’t need to tell her what really happened, but she needs to do something so it doesn’t hurt her anymore.
Laura looks at the detectives card but before she can call Richard calls her and tells her that the police caught the guy again, and this time they don’t need her testimony.  He tells her that he wants her to call the neighbors he’s going to taken them all out to celebrate.  After she hangs up Laura calls the detective and tells her that she wasn’t raped by the man with the scar, the detective tells her that she knew that and asks if they need to go after the man who did, Laura tells her no.
At the restaurant Val points out that the menu doesn't have any prices, Gary tells her not to worry about it because Richard is paying.  Richard asks Laura what she wants for dinner, but ends up ordering for her.  He asks Karen what she wants, she orders exactly what Laura wanted.  Laura excuses herself and goes to the bar, Val watches her as she lets a man light her cigarette.
Final Thoughts:  This episode bothered me because I've seen so many episodes of Law and Order so I know that that suspect would have been released the moment the other woman said something about the scar when she was leaving the room, and when the detective was pushing Laura to id the suspect his lawyer would have stopped her right there.  Other than that it was a good episode, strong acting, it made Richard a bit likeable till the end then he went right back to being a jerk.
Best Outfit:  Val dresses like a little girl, maybe if she didn't wear her hair like she does then it wouldn't look like she's in grade school.

Final Thoughts:  I was hoping that things would work out for Julia, I like John Saxton, I don't really know why, but I do.  God Chase is such a pain in the ass, I like Maggie and that's about it in that family the kids are just as whiny as Chase.
Guest Star:  John Saxton
Best Outfit:  This is some shirt, I had one similar to it in high school, it didn't have the ruffle around the collar or the ruffle down the front, but the sleeves were the same.  The hat really completes the outfit to me.

Blake Goes to Jail

Dynasty
Season 1 Episode 12
Air Date:  April 13, 1981
Recap:  Krystle goes to the mansion and Andrew tells her how glad he is that she came back, and for her not to tell Blake that she was going to leave and not come back.  He takes her to where Blake is being questioned by the police.  They want to take him downtown, he tells it was just an accident, and that he won’t go anywhere without seeing Krystle first.  The police leave them for a few minutes together, but then they handcuff him and take him downtown.
At the police station, Andrew tells him that they are going to 1st degree murder, and that one of the servants overheard him say that he was going to kill him.  Blake tells Andrew that they need to call in some favors, Andrew tells him he’s got no chance and that things are going to get very messy.
Matthew is waiting for Krystle at the station, he tells her that she needs to get out of here, but she asks if Claudia was in trouble would he leave, she says that she’s going to be there for Blake.
At Ted’s funeral Steven, with Fallon, tries to talk to his mother, but she walks away.
The trial has begun (I don’t know how long time has passed, but it seems like it’s the next day) and the prosecutor is Matthew’s friend.  Blake tells Andrew that he doesn’t want Claudia called to the stand.   They both make their opening statements.  Fallon tries to call Steven and Blake tells her that he hasn’t been able to get a hold of him either.
Jeff tells Blake about the meeting with the board, Blake tells him that he’ll still be able to make the meeting because the judge has a doctor’s appointment.  Blake tries to talk to Steven, but Steven tells him that he can’t look at him.
The prosecution begins with the maid, she tells them about overhearing Blake say that he’ll kill him and run up the stairs.  (Now maybe this is because I’ve watched too many episodes of Law and Order, but I was wondering why Blake’s lawyer didn’t object, she says that she heard him say I’ll kill him, but who is him?  He could have meant Steven and any lawyer now would say who hasn’t’ said I’ll kill him at some point.  It doesn’t make it premeditated.)
At Matthew’s office he is watching the news and sees Ed telling everyone about seeing Steven and Ted at the restaurant.  Claudia tells Matthew that Steven isn’t all gay, he wants to know how she knows, and she tells him that Steven told her at their house when he came over for dinner, Matthew thinks it’s a bit strange that he would have told her that when they hardly knew each other.
Blake asks Krystle to stay with him, but she tells him that she’s not ready to share his bed yet.  She tells him that she’s feeling guilty for not being there for him when it happened.
The next day at the courthouse Jeff tells Blake that the meeting has been moved back, so that he won’t be able to be there, the trial is about to resume.  He tells Krystle that she is going to act in his behalf and she needs to figure out who is the ringer leader, and he tells her what she is going to do in the meeting.
Fallon is called as the next witness, she changes her story, from what she told the police.
At the board meeting Krystle tells them all that she is going to be watching them.
Steven is put on the stand and tells the court that Fallon lied, and that Ted didn’t push Blake.
Final Thoughts:  As I said earlier I don't know if it's just because I've watched too many legal shows or they just didn't know how to write one, but the whole court scenes don't seem right to me, and that they decided to charge him with 1st degree murder right away.  Otherwise a good episode with a lot going on.
Guest Star:  Brian Dennehy
Best Outfit:  This jacket has a matching skirt, it looks more like a rug to me.
Fight Count:  none unless I want to count the flashback sequences of Blake's fight with Ted.
