Power Play

Dallas
Season 3 Episode 16
Original Airdate: January 4, 1980

Recap: JR calls the office and asks Kristen if Alan called, she asks if it's important he says no. He told her to tell him you want to see him at the condo tomorrow.   He asks if they are going to meet for dinner she said she love to. Alan is in the office he asked Kristin why didn't she didn't put him on with Jr.  She tells him that JR only has time for important messages, and that flunkies aren't important.  She tells him JR wants meet him at the condo in the morning.  He tells her he is important to JR, she says for now and that he's replaceable he says that she's the one that is replaceable, a secretary who does most of her work on her back.  She says that he needs to watch his mouth.  Once the Barnes campaign is off then he will be back on the streets.  Alan tells her that she's worried that he is important to JR that he will cut her off.
   Alan and Lucy go out for dinner.  Lucy notices that JR and Kristin are there too.  Alan suggests they meet somewhere else, she says it that maybe it’s time to tell JR about them.  Alan says that he doesn't want her to get in trouble.
   Back at Kristin apartment she ask JR what's bothering him.  He tells me he's just worried about the business, she asked if he’s sure she didn't do anything.  She asks him if he's getting bored with her.  He says that’s crazy.  She asks if she's been too easy, he asked her what she thinks.  She says she doesn’t know and asks him to show her.
   Lucy says that she's so glad that they didn't stay for dinner, and that she had a wonderful evening.  Alan says that he's ready to take JR anytime she says she knows, but she doesn't want to spoil his plans.  She asks if it's alright for to go to the Barnes party.  She tells him that she’s going to get something really sexy to wear.
   Jock Ask Miss Ellie if she's feeling better as he gives her a massage.  He suggests they go away for awhile.  There is the annual party at a friend of theirs.  She says that she is not ready to be with a crowd with their questions.  She asked him to understand, that it will take her sometime and he says okay.
   Pam and Bobby get home late, she's a bit tipsy.  She tells him that she had a good time with Ray and Donna.  He tells her she looks very pretty, she tells him to tell her again.  Bobby says that dancing with his best girl is better than fighting with her.  They go upstairs, but Pam says that she'll be up in a minute.  When he asked her where she's going to go, she says she's going to heat up some milk.
   In Donna's room, Ray pours himself another cup of coffee.  He says that a hangover from one of his cowboy bars is the same as a hangover from a fancy nightclub.  She says that she hopes of Bobby and Pam had as much fun as she did.  There is a knock at the door, she answers it.  It's her lawyer Jonas.  He has some paperwork for her to sign.  Ray says goodbye, and as he walks out he hears the lawyer ask her if she thought about who she wants to manager inheritance she says she hasn't really wanted to think about it yet. He tells her that it’s a sizable amount ten million dollars.
   Lucy tells everyone good morning at breakfast, she tells them that she got a letter from her mother and father and that they say hello.  JR asks if jock and Miss Ellie are going to go to the party.  Jock says no.  He doesn’t want to talk about it.  Miss Ellie comments about what a good baby John Ross is, Sue Ellen leaves with the baby.  JR comments about how good the baby is sleeping.  Jock asks where JR was all night.  JR tells him that he was out late with the cartel.   Jock asks if Bobby knew anything about this meeting.  Bobby says no he didn't.  Jock reminds JR that he is supposed to talk to Bobby about this sort of thing.  Bobby excuses himself to go to work, Pam follows him, and apologizes for last night.  She said that she'll take some more time for lunch he tells her that he doesn't know how long the meeting with JR will take.  Lucy said goodbye and that she'll see them all later.  JR leaves too.  He takes Lucy's keys, and asked her not to talk to about her parents to her grandmother.  She tells him to mind his own business.  JR tells her that she may be able to trick her grandfather but he knows better.  Lucy tells JR that she saw him at dinner with Kristin and when she became part of the cartel.  
   JR wants to know why Cliff is still in the campaign, Alan tells him they're spending money fast as he can. JR tells him he's got a lot of explaining to do, he thinks that they should have spent the money a long time ago.  Alan said that there are few people who still believe in Cliff, and have donated to his campaign.
   At the Barnes for Congress skate rally, Lucy is talking to her friend about Alan.  She says that Alan can't stand JR.
   At Alan’s apartment, there's a knock at the door he goes to answer.  He gives Serena an envelope to give to JR.  He tells her to make sure JR gets in person, and give it him whatever he wants. He tells her to make sure that he likes what he gets.
   Kristin tried to stop Serena from going to JR's office but she goes right by her, Kristin follows her to the door of JR’s office.  Serena tells her that Allen sent her, and that she is supposed to give JR the envelope in person.  JR comes out of the office, to see what is going on, Kristen complains to JR that at Serena won’t give her the package.  JR takes her in his office and tells Kristen to hold all his calls.  JR and Serena are in his office along time, when they finally leave JR tells Kristen that he will see her in the morning.   Kristin says to herself that Alan has stepped over the line, she calls Barnes headquarters and demands to speak to Alan.   They tell her that Alan left for the evening.  She tells them that she's from Cliff’s major contributor, and that she wants to speak to Alan, they tell her that where she can find him.
   Everyone seems to be having a lot of fun at the roller rally, Cliff tells them that he isn’t going to make a speech, but all the kids want him to.  He asks them if they are having a good time.  He introduces them to his father.  His father thanks them all for what they are doing for his son.  He says that he's very proud.       
   Kristin arrives at the rally, she buys a camera from a someone.  Alan is talking to a couple guys and one of them wants to donate some money.  Alan tells him that they're not here to raise money.  Lucy’s friend tells her that Alan is very cute.  Lucy tells her that she doesn't like being ignored, even though she knows they need to be careful being seen together.  Kristin takes a picture of Lucy and Alan together.
   The next day when JR comes in to the office, Kristin follows him and gives him the pictures of Lucy and Alan.  JR tells her to get Alan on the phone.
   Alan and Betty Lou are in bed together.  She wants to spend less time with Lucy and more time with her. The phone rings, Alan answers it and its Kristin telling him to come meet JR.  He tells Betty Lou that he will call her later.
   JR question Alan about Lucy, he sends Kristin out of the office and she's not happy about it. Alan tells JR that he and Lucy are spending a lot of time together.  He tells him that he loves Lucy and he's going to marry her.  JR told him that he's happy about this.  JR tells him that he's going to help so Lucy will marry him. He's going to give him half million dollars to set up a law practice in Chicago.  Alan doesn’t want to leave Texas.    JR tells him that it doesn't make a difference if it Chicago or Texas, but he explained that if Lucy's not in Texas then Gary won’t come around.  They shake on it.  When Alan leave the office, Kristin smiles thinking that JR yelled at him, but he turns around in her chair kisses her and tell her that she's a doll.  She doesn't look please, and realizes that her plan backfired.
   Pam asked Bobby if he can't sleep either he says no.  He asked her what's wrong she said she sorry. She says she’s just a bit jumpy.  He asked her why every time he touches her, she turns away from him.  She says she doesn’t know.  He gets up the movies over to his side of the bed.
   Alan comes back from the shower, Lucy is getting dressed he kisses her. She told him she late already he asked her to stay. She tells me she can't stay.  He tells her that he's tired of all the hiding.  She tells him that she isn’t wild about it either.  He tells her that he wants to marry her.  She said she thinks he's terrific.  But, she says she can't marry him.  She can't rush into this.  He agrees talk about it tomorrow. JR comes over to Alan's house the next day.  Alan tells JR that it’s going to take some time to get Lucy to marry him.  He tells him that Lucy wants more times.  He tells JR that he can't push any harder or he will  scare her off.  JR tells him to tell Lucy that it’s over and he will handle the rest.
   Serena calls for JR, but Kristin tells her that he’s not in, she tells her to call back later.  Kristin ask JR what he's doing about Lucy and Alan.
   Alan is telling someone that they have to cancel all of Cliff’s radio spots.  He says they ran out of money and there's nothing he can do about it.  Lucy comes over and reminds him about their date.  He tells her he think they should end things, she doesn’t understand.  He tells her that he loves her, and that he didn't mean for things to get this way and apologizes.  She tells him that she never said she wasn't going to marry him, she just wasn't sure yet, and she just wanted more time.  Alan tells her it hurts too much, and that he wants to be with her always.  She tells him that she doesn't understand.  He told her he doesn't want to be hurt anymore then he is right now, he makes her leave.
   Jock ask Bobby where Pam is, tell her she's still at work.  Lucy gets home and Miss Ellie tells her it's good to have her home for dinner.  JR come home and tell them he's got some bad news.  He shows them the pictures of Lucy and Alan.  JR asks her what she has to say for herself.  She says there's nothing to say.  JR asks about her sneaking out to meet him.  Jock ask her if that's right, she knows he doesn't like her lying to them.  Lucy said she knew how JR felt about Alan, and that's why she kept her private life private.  JR says that Allen is no good, Lucy tried to get Bobby to be on her side but he says that he says that she could do better.  She tells them that Alan asks her to marry him, and she said yes.  Miss Ellie tells JR to leave Lucy alone.   JR says if that's the way you want it, he pours himself a drink and smiles that smile.
Final Thoughts:  My favorite part of this episode was Kristin and Alan trying to one up each other.  I'm ready for the whole campaign thing is almost over.
Best Outfit:  The suspenders with all the flair, but I just noticed that you can see her shirt tucked into the shorts.

Return Engagmetns

Dallas
Season 3 Episode 14
Original Airdate:  December 20, 1979

Recap:  Miss Ellie is going through Gary’s things, it’s something that she does every year on his birthday.  Jock goes to Miss Ellie and tells her that it isn't good for her to brood about the past.  She tells him that she just wants Gary home.  He tells her that even if they could find him that he would just run away again.
   Sue Ellen tells JR that she hopes he and Kristin will have fun on his business trip, he keeps on insisting that nothing is going on between the two of them, and accuses her of having a dirty mind. 
   Miss Ellie asks Lucy to take her to her mother, she asks Val to tell Gary that she wants to see him, and Val promises her that she will tell him as soon as she talks to him.
   Rudy, an old boyfriend of Kristin calls Southfork and talks to Sue Ellen, who tells him where he can find her and suggest that he go and surprise her.
   Val goes home and tells Gary about what Miss Ellie said, she sees his suitcase and realizes that he is leaving again, her tells her that he got a job, she knows that he is lying, he tells her that he can’t get a job in TX, she asks him about them, she asks how long it will be before they are sure that they will stay together.  He tells her that he I sorry.
   When Kristin and JR get to the hotel Rudy is there ans sees her with JR.
   Gary goes to see Bobby, Bobby calls home and puts Miss Ellie on the phone, Gary promises to meet her the next day.  Sue Ellen overhears Miss Ellie’s side of the conversation.
   Kristin and JR are going to dinner, when he spots an old business associate, they go over to say hello, but end up joining them and talking business.  JR sends Kristin off so they can keep talking, she goes to the bar and finds Rudy, he tells her that Sue Ellen told him where he could find her.  HE asks her about her and JR.
   The next day Bobby takes Miss Ellie to Ewing Oil to meet with Gary.  She thanks Val for giving Gary the message.  She tells him that she knows that part of the reason he left Southfork was because she insisted that he move back in.  She asks them about their plans, they tell her that they’ve been talking about getting remarried and moving to California, Gary tells Miss Ellie that he is tired of breaking his promises to everyone.  Gary proposes to Val, and Miss Ellie calls for Bobby and tells him that Val and Gary are getting remarried.
   Kristin asks if there are any messages for her, the hotel concierge tells her that JR is in the lounge.  JR tells her that he still has come business to take care of.  She leaves and goes to see Rudy.
   Bobby is making arrangements for the wedding to take place that day.  Bobby says that he will take Miss Ellie shopping after he signs come papers, he tells her about the houses he bought in California, she asks to see the pictures.
   After shopping they go back to Southfork to change.  Bobby tells Jock about the wedding, he says that he should come.  Jock tells him that Gary has been given enough chances, Bobby tells him where they will be and that he hopes that he will come.  Bobby tells Miss Ellie that he told Jock, Sue Ellen is in the other room and hears this as well.
   JR calls Southfork and talks to Sue Ellen, she tells him about Gary and Val getting remarried.  He goes to make arrangements to return to Dallas.  He is going to leave a note for Kristin and she can drive herself back, but the concierge tells him he can’t get the rental he requested.  The bell boys tell JR where Kristin went, and JR gets one of them to take him to the hotel she went to.
   Miss Ellie gives Gary and Val a house, she tells them to take the gift, after they try to refuse saying it’s too much.  There is a knock at the door, it’s Jock, he tells them that he would like to attend the ceremony if he is welcome.  Gary and Jock hug, and Jock wishes him good luck.
   Rudy tells Kristin that he still loves her, Jock walks into the room and tells Kristin to get dressed.  Rudy tries to stop her but she tells him that she has to go.  Kristin asks JR why he tore himself away from business, he tells her about Garry, and then then calls Rudy’s boss and tells him that he has no character and suggests that the Ewing's will take their money from the bank if he isn’t fired.  Rudy asks Kristin if this is what she really wants, she tells him yes and leaves with JR.
   Gary Val and Bobby fly to California too look at houses.  They can move into the house in Knots Landing in a week after the few minor repairs are completed. 
   Back in Dallas Sue Ellen says it was a real pleasure to see everyone so happy, she says that she is happy to see JR lose.  She tells him about Val and Gary living in California, which brightens his mood.

Final Thoughts:  I like how they tied in this with Knots Landing, I wish that they would have done more cross-over episodes, I have a feeling that Kristin's days as JR's secretary/lover are coming to an end.
Best Outfit:  Okay, this isn't too bad, but stop tying back your hair like your a little child.
