Scapegoat

Knots Landing
Season 2 Episode 8
Original Airdate: January 15, 1981

Recap:  Karen wakes up to sounds coming from downstairs, she wakes Sid up who goes down to check.  She follows him down, and they find Michael walking in circles.

The next morning Sid says that he was just sleepwalking, Karen tells him that he was wide awake.  Eric tells them that Michael does it all the time.
Sid and Gary are talking about how they aren’t doing well at the moment, when Linda comes in asks Sid to come check on the engine.
Michael is painting in class, he goes over to get more paint and ends up fighting with another boy in class.
Laura goes over to Karen’s she tells her that she wants to talk about Richard and Abby.  She says that at first she thought it was just an act, but now she really thinks that they might be having an affair.  Karen asks her if she has talked to Richard.  Laura tells her that she hasn’t, she wanted to talk to someone else to see if she was just imagining things.  Karen gets a phone call from the school and asks Laura if they can talk later since Michael is in trouble again.
Sid is going over what Abby will be doing at the dealership, she tells him bookkeeping is the same whatever you are selling.  Gary comes in and tells Sid that he is going to a meeting and that he can handle it on his own.
The principal tells Karen that they are suspending Michael and that she should think about a learning disabled class.  This principal keeps taking phone calls, which makes Karen angry, which I don’t blame her, what kind of secretary keeps sending in calls when she knows that the principal is meeting with a teacher.   Karen tells her to look at Michael’s records, she doesn’t think he needs to be in a special class, the principal tells her that she will look at the records, but tells her to think about it.
At the meeting Roy and Frank give Gary a sheet of part that they can sell to them for $50,000.  Gary asks if they are used, they tell him that they are in good condition.  Gary takes their deal without talking to Sid.
Karen tells Sid about Michael, he tells her he thinks Michael is just a normal kid, and that she should just back off him.  She tells him that Michael is in trouble and that she thinks that he needs to talk to a therapist.  Sid says that it’s too extreme, she says if he gave Michael half the attention that he gives to his engine that they would all be better off.
Gary tells Sid about the parts, Sid wants to know why they are giving them such a good deal.  Gary says that it was because they helped them out that they just want to return the favor.  Sid tells him that the parts are worth a lot more, and that he doesn’t want to do business with them any longer.
Laura comes downstairs and tells Richard that she wants to talk, he acts like and ass, and she goes back upstairs.
Sid talks to Michael about school, and Michael tells him that he can’t keep up with what the teacher is talking about and that he just wants to be like everyone else.
Abby goes into Gary’s office and asks him why he is there on Saturday.  He asks her why she isn’t at the beach with the rest of the neighborhood.  She leaves his office when Roy and Frank come in, Abby turns on the intercom and listens in on the meeting.
Karl is with Ginger at the beach, he asks her why she hasn’t told Kenny about the baby yet.  She tells him that she is afraid, and confused.  He tells her that she can depend on him, and he doesn’t care if she is pregnant.
Michael runs over and gets Richard and Laura to join in the volleyball game.
Gary tells them that Sid knows that the parts were stolen and that the deal is off.  They let him know that the deal is still on and give him a few days to get the money together.
Michael is running all over the court and finally knocks Olivia over trying to get the ball.  Sid tells him to get off the court, Michael runs off and Sid follows him.  Michael asks him what’s wrong with him.  Sid tells him nothing is wrong.
Michael asks why he has to go to the therapist, he tells them that he isn’t crazy.  While Karen and Sid are talking to the therapist Michael is tearing the room apart, ripping magazines, and throwing cushions around.  At home Karen tells Sid that he made up his mind about the therapist before they went to see him.  Sid tells Michael that he will take him to work with him.
Gary goes into Abby’s office, she tells him about some big oil conference, she tells him that JR probably will be there, and that he could give him the money he is looking for.  He realizes she knows what is going on with Roy and Frank.  She tells him that she admires what he is doing for Sid, and that she doesn’t want to see him get hurt.
Sid is explaining everything at the garage to Michael, who is no longer paying attention, when Sid has to take a phone call Michael starts to play with the air and water hose, spraying water everywhere.  When Sid gets back he tells Michael to stop.  Michael says that he will clean it up and rushes over to get a rag, he slips and hits his head on a tool.  Sid says he is going to take Michael to the hospital and asks Linda to call Karen.
At the hospital Karl is checking Michael out since their normal doctor is out of town.  He tells them that Michael is fine, but they are going to keep him over night, he tells them that he has a few theories about what is wrong with Michael and wants to run a few tests, he tells them he will know more the next day.
During dinner Gary gets a phone call from Roy and Frank, he tells them that Sid isn’t a part of it and to leave him out of ti.  Val asks him about the phone call and he tells her that he doesn’t want to talk about it.
Eric asks when Michael is going to come home, Diana goes on about how much he will be a pain.  Karen gets upset and Eric tells her that they will help Michael.
Abby and Gary get to the garage, and find Roy and Frank waiting they go inside.  Gary tells them that he can’t come up with the money right away, they drop a wrench on Gary and tell him that the parts will be delivered next week and they want the money upon delivery.
Karl tells Sid and Karen that Michael is hyper kinetic.  He tells them that it isn’t their fault, that they need to help him burn his energy.  He tells them that it can be tough on a family, Sid tells him that they are a tough family.
Abby asks Gary if he is alright.  She tells him that he has got to come up with the money somehow.
Michael tells Sid that he is sorry, Sid tells him that he has nothing to be sorry about.  Eric comes in to play card with him.
Karen tells him that it scared her how they were before they found out what was wrong with Michael.  She tells him that hse knew that he wasn’t the one responsible, but she did think that she was.  He tells her that now they know that it was not their fault at all.
Final Thoughts:  Gary is getting into a big mess, and I’m sure that it’s going to come all out and he’s going to lose a good friend.  First he start an affair and now he’s getting the business  into buying stolen parts.  I think that Ginger just needs to divorce Kenny and marry Karl, he seems like he’s a good guy.  That principal really got on my nerves, it was so unprofessional for her to keep taking calls while she was talking to Karen.  I don’t blame her for getting angry.
Best Outfit:  Another muumuu, stop wearing them.

Sue Ellen goes to the nursery it’s really creepy, she starts all the music boxes, Bobby goes in and talks to her, he asks her how she is, she tells him that she’s fine, but there is no emotion in her voice at all.  He tells her that everyone cares about her, not just the baby, she says that she knows that, but you can tell that she’s just saying this to get rid of him.  He tells her that she can trust him not to tell anyone what she told him about Cliff and the baby.  She tells him she doesn’t know what he’s talking about then drops the music box she’s holding and walks out of the room.

At the hospital they run into Pam, they tell her that the baby will be able to come home tomorrow.
Alan tells JR that the property they want to drill is perfect, and he’ll write up a brief and if Cliff shuts them down again, then they can file an abuse of power against him.  JR’s secretary comes in and tells him that Willie Joe and Jeb are here to see him, he tells her to tell them that he’s in a meeting, but they burst in anyway.  They tell him that they want to talk to him in private.  They tell JR it feels like he’s been avoiding them, they tell him that they think he’s just as responsible for Julie’s death as they are.  They want him to give them money since they can’t touch their own because they are being sued by everyone.  He tells them that he’s not going to give them a cent, and tells them to get out of his office, they tell him that he’ll be sorry.
When Bobby gets home he finds Sue Ellen home, he tells her that he’s going to go see the baby, and tells her that she can’t keep avoiding the things that are important.  She asks him what he wants from her.  He just wants to help her.  She tells him that the only way he can help her is for him to leave her alone.
Cliff is walking toward the hospital when Bobby gets there, he tells him that he told him to stay away.  Cliff tells Bobby that he wants Sue Ellen and the baby.  Bobby tells him that he’ll only cause Sue Ellen more problems, Cliff tells Bobby that he will get Sue Ellen and the baby anyway he can.  He tells Cliff that he and JR will get him if he tries anything.
Cliff goes back to his office and tells his co-worker that he’s going to make the Ewing’s give him everything that is rightfully his.
Jock tells JR that he doesn’t want Willie Joe or Jeb to have anything to do with Ewing Oil, JR tells him not to worry about that.
Pam asks Bobby if he’s mad at her, he tells her he’s sorry, he’s just had a bad couple days.  He tells her that the Barnes/Ewing feud makes it hard to be honest with each other.  He tells her that he sent Cliff away from the hospital, she tells him that Cliff wouldn’t do anything I remember her saying this before and she learned that her brother is just as bad as JR I guess she’s forgotten all about that.  Bobby tells her that if Cliff doesn’t stay away from Sue Ellen then he’ll tear him apart and he won’t be able to work in Dallas.  Bobby goes with Jock to take care of the cattle.
JR gets home and wants Sue Ellen to go with him to pick up the baby from the hospital, she tells him that she can’t go because she’s got a headache, Miss Ellie tells him to be patient with her when he follows her into the house.  In their room he tells her to get dressed and that he’s not fooled like everyone else it with her excuses.  He tells her that it’s time she started acting like a wife and mother, he goes to the closet and pulls out a bunch of clothes and tells her to get dressed or he'll do it for her.
When they get to the hospital there is a crowd about the hospital, reporters come over and start asking them questions, a detective comes over and takes them into the hospital where he tells them that the baby has been kidnapped, the doctor and nurse apologize telling JR and Sue Ellen that this has never happened before.  JR calls home and tells Miss Ellie that the baby had been kidnapped.
Final Thoughts:  This was a great episode to start the next season, you've got two choices about who kidnapped the baby, but I think it's pretty obvious who did do it and his initials are not C.B.  I doubt the change in JR's attitude will last that long.  It's interesting to hear Lucy say that her parents don't want her since they are remarried and living in California, "waiting" till they think they are ready to have her live with them, she won't know that they are remarried till the end of this season of Dallas, but will in the next episode of Knots Landing, Lucy isn't a child anymore she just graduated I highly doubt that she would really want to live with her parents even if she knew that they were back together.
Best Outfit:  There weren't any really awful outfits, but this one of Pam's was the closest, she's got a scarf tied around her waist, in a previous scene you can see it on the side, it must have shifted or it's been redone in this shot.
Fight Count:  2 (Bobby vs Cliff) (JR vs Sue Ellen)

Jeff wakes up and finds Fallon is gone, he asks Joesph if he saw his wife, and Joesph ask you mean Fallon?  Like Jeff has another wife.  Fallon gets to the clinic right when it opens the lady tells her that her appointment isn’t till 1 pm and she can’t change it, she tries to offer her money but it won’t work.
Cecil calls Claudia to set up a lunch date, Jeff comes in and asks him if it’s true that he gave Blake money for Fallon to marry him.  He didn’t want to believe it but now he does.  Jeff tells him that Cecil would do anything do anything to get his hands on Dever-Carrington.  He tells Jeff that Blake took the money willingly.
Sammy Jo and Steven are at the cabin, she tells him that she’s never been happier.  He tells her that he wants to race cars that he has found what has made him happy.  He asks her to marry him.
Fallon goes to Nick’s office, she wants to go to his house so she can be alone, he knows it’s so she can hide from Jeff.  She tells him that she loves him again, he wants her to stop using him, she can go to his house, but he warns her that she better not be there when he gets home.
Blake calls home and wants to talk to Krystle, but Joesph tells him that she is still asleep.  Ray Bonning, the man who works for Logan Rhinewood, comes in to see Blake, he tells him that he’s there to buy the rest of the football team, he threatens Blake, and leaves.  In the hall he calls Rhinewood, and tells him he knows what he is doing and if things go that far then they will deal with his widow.
Andrew comes into Blake’s office, he congratulates him on the deal he made with Rashid, he show Blake the tabloid and tells him that it’s now news.  Blake tells him that nothing happened.  He tells Andrew that he wants to go to the Middle East and wrap up the deal.
Claudia and Cecil are at lunch he tells her what his investigators found out about the whereabouts of Matthew and Lindsay, he tells her that they are probably in Venezuela now.
Steven and Sammy Jo get married at a justice of the peace, with his wife as the witness.
Jeff goes to see Blake he is angry about Blake’s involvement, he tells him that he didn’t know about it until after Jeff and Fallon were married.  Jeff tells Blake that Fallon is having an abortion.  Blake rushes out of his office.
Fallon is in the waiting room, a nurse tells her that the doctor is ready for her.  Blake gets to the clinic and asks where Fallon is, he pushes past a nurse to go find her.  They see each other in the hall and she runs to him, crying that she couldn’t do it.
Alexis’ private investigator has come over with the report he has on Krystle’s past.  She wants to know more, and wants him to tell her more about Krystle’s ex-husband.  Andrew comes over and asks her to call Rashid for him, he asks about the man that left when he got there, she tells him that it was just a picture framer, but he seems to doubt her.
In her room at the house, Blake is sitting with Fallon in bed, they talk about how much she loved him when she was little, making him fudge, and drawing pictures of him.  He leaves her when she falls a sleep.
Blake asks Joseph where Krystle is, he tells her she’s been in her room waiting for him.
In their room he sees the newspaper and magazine on the bed, he apologizes, and says he hopes she understands, but she tells him that she doesn’t and believes that he did sleep with Alexis.  She leaves the house and drives away, Alexis has seen everything that went on as Blake rushes after her.
Later Alexis joins Blake in the kitchen, she asks if Krystle saw the picture, and asks if there is anything she can do.  He wants to know if she knew about the picture, she gets upset asking him how he could suspect her.  Of course he believes her when she said she had nothing to do with it.
Krystle stops at a pay phone and calls the house, Blake asks Alexis to answer it, Krystle is very upset to hear her on the other end, and hangs up and begins to cry.
Final Thought:  Really Blake, you should have called Krystle right away when you found out about the picture being in the paper, and then you should not trust your ex-wife.  I can't wait to see Alexis' face when she finds out that Sammy Jo and Steven are married.  Jeff is a nice guy and needs to just get out to of this marriage already, but Fallon is stupid to think that Nick would really get involved with her, he's pretty clear that he's not really that interested in her, but I guess she likes that.
Best Outfit:  When I first saw this I thought it was a robe.
Fight Count:  1 (Krystle vs. Blake)
