Mastectomy Part 1

Season 2 Episode  9
Air Date: November 16, 1979

Recap:  Miss Ellie is making a phone call to make an appointment to see her doctor.  Jock comes in and asks her if she is alright, she changes the subject and tells him that she’s got a lot of errands to run, when he offers to take her into Dallas she tells him that Pam will take her.

   JR is still sleeping, Kristin comes into the room and gets back into the bed and wakes him up.  He looks at the clock and gets upset with her since she let him fall asleep and stay the night, when he told her never to do that.  She tells him that she likes to have him there.  She wants to help him more, but he tells her that he’s got everything under control.  He tells her she better go so that she gets to the office before he gets there.

   Bobby asks Ray if he will see Donna soon, Ray tells him that he isn’t sure when they will get together.  They notice that Sue Ellen is leaving, Ray says that he’s seen her leave early all week.  Bobby says that she must have an earlier appointment with her therapist.

   At the doctor’s office he tells Miss Ellie that they’ve found no sign of cancer, but she tells him that she felt a difference since the last time she found the lump.  He tells her that they will do a test on the discharge and for from there.

   Sue Ellen is watching Dusty as he sits down in the coffee shop.

   Kristin gets to the office, and the other secretary seems to know what’s going on, Jock gets there only a few moments before JR, they go into his office and he asks his son about the trust for his first wife.  JR tells him that he’s got it under control, but Jock wants to see papers, JR tells him that he never did anything with it because of Miss Ellie, he asks him if told  her yet.  Jock says no, JR tells him that once he tells Miss Ellie then he will set up the trust fund.  Jock gets s up and tells him that he will tell her that night.

   Pam is having lunch with Miss Ellie, who is telling her what the doctor said.  She says that she doesn’t want to tell Jock because she’s afraid that he will turn away from her if she has to tell him she has to have a mastectomy.  Pam tells her that he wouldn’t do that, she reminds her that she told her that her and Jock’s marriage was built on honesty and that she should trust in that.  Miss Ellie tells her that she will try to tell him that night.

   After dinner Jock and Ellie are in the library, they both know that something is on their minds.  Jock begins and tells her about his first wife.  She is shocked by this revelation, he tells her about her breakdown and how the doctors suggested the divorce.  Miss Ellie can’t believe that he would divorce a sick woman, and that he had never told her about Amanda.  She asks what else he’s kept from her.  She asks him if he will walk away from her if she ever gets sick.  The rest of the family is in the drawing room, and see Miss Ellie go upstairs with Jock calling after her.  Bobby asks JR if he knows what’s going on, but he doesn’t say.  Lucy says that she has never seen her grandmother that angry before.

   Bobby goes to Jock and asks him if he can do anything.  Jock tells him no.  In their room Pam tells Bobby that she thinks she is responsible for the fight, she tells him about what she and Miss Ellie talked about at lunch.  He tells her that there is something more to it. 

   The next morning Sue Ellen asks if JR knows what the fight was all about, she asks him if it’s serious.  He doesn’t say anything.  She asks what he will do if his parents get divorced he would have to choose between Southfork and Ewing Oil.  He tells her not to get far ahead of things and reminds that she is only there because it makes Miss Ellie and Jock happy.  He tells her to get him so new ties after her therapy session.

   Sue Ellen is back at the coffee shop.  The waitress asks if she would like her usual, Dusty hears her name and turns to see her.  He comes over and sits with her.  She tells him that she wanted to see him again.  When she says that she better go, he asks her to stay.

   Alan is overseeing the progress of Barnes for Congress campaign office.  He goes to his car and calls JR’s private line and tells him that he’s got the flyers printed and volunteers and they are open for business.

   Bobby finds Miss Ellie on the patio, he tells her that they missed her at dinner, she tells him that she wanted to be alone.  He asks her if she would like to talk.  She tells him that she tries to stay out of his and Pam’s business, and she would appreciate it if he would do the same.

   The next day Miss Ellie gets a call from the doctor telling her that her results are suspicious and he wants to see her.  She has her bag packed and goes out to the patio and finds Pam.  She asks her to take her to the hospital. 

   Sue Ellen tells her therapist that JR told her that he was the one therapist in town most likely to get her into bed.  He asks her what is really on her mind.  She tells him about Dusty, but that she is afraid to see him.   She tells him that she feels cold inside and has no desire for sex.  He tells her that it’s normal that she still needs time to heal all of her wounds.  He tells her just to be herself, and she says that she doesn’t know who that is yet.

   Alan is talking with Cliff.  Cliff tells him that he has heard about his fight with JR from his father, he asks him what he wants.  Alan tells him that he just wants to stick it to JR.  Cliff tells him that he isn’t running for congress.  Alan shows him the list of people that will support him in his campaign.  Cliff tells him that he is impressed, and that he won’t stop him for continuing his campaign to get Cliff into Congress.

   Pam tells Miss Ellie that she will stay, she asks her if she is going to call Jock, Miss Ellie tells her that she needs to stay out of it.  The nurse comes into the room and tells her that they are ready for her.  Pam leaves the room and calls Bobby at the office. 

   In her room the doctors are explaining what will happen.  They tell her she’s got other options, but Miss Ellie says no, that if they have to just do the mastectomy.  After signing the release, they leave her and she goes to the mirror to look at herself, she breaks down.

   Jock, JR and Bobby arrive, Pam goes to them and says that she doesn’t understand why she wouldn’t want to see Jock.  Jock goes to Miss Ellie’s room, the nurse tells him that she has been sedated, he goes to her side, she is still awake, he asks her why she didn’t tell him.  She tells him it’s only a minor operation, and she was afraid to tell him.  She asks him if they find cancer if he will leave her like Amanda.  Bobby wants to go to the room, but Pam tells him that they need time together.  Bobby asks JR again if Jock said anything to him.  They all get up as Miss Ellie is wheeled off to surgery.  Bobby is going to call the ranch and tell Lucy, but Pam says that it would be better if she went home.  He promises to call her when they get news. 

   Sue Ellen meets up with Dusty on her horseback ride.  He tells her that if she wants to tell him about her past he’ll listen, but that he doesn’t care about any of it, he only cares about her.  He tells her that if she does leave JR that he will be there to help her.  He kisses her, she tells him not now, and he says that he will wait.  He walks her to her horse and promises her that he will see her soon.

   Back at the hospital Bobby asks his father what’s going on, Jock doesn’t say, but says that JR will tell him.  Bobby is upset that JR has known all along, JR says that he was told in confidence.  He then tells Bobby that Jock was married before.

   Pam gets home and asks Lucy if Sue Ellen is around, she tells her that she is horseback riding.  Pam tells Lucy that Miss Ellie is in surgery, and that Miss Ellie thinks the cyst is more than that, and that she will have to be brave.

   The nurse calls Jock and takes him to Miss Ellie, the doctor tells Jock that she was right it was cancer.  He tells Jock that he will have to tell Miss Ellie that they had to do the mastectomy when she wakes up.  Jock is crying and we are left with the famous words to be continued.
Final Thoughts:  I'm really liking the whole Alan and JR storyline, I can't wait to see where it goes and what will happened with Cliff.  The breast cancer storyline is interesting, because we get to see how all the characters react to it.  It's a to be continued so I guess we will see what will happen then. 
Best Outfit:  There really isn't anything wrong with Lucy's outfit, except for that yarn bow.  I don't get it.

The Mid-East Meeting

Season 2 Episode 8

Air Date:  January 6, 1982

Recap:  Joseph comes into the library and brings him the gift that Blake had him pick up for him, he's been waiting for it, he asks Blake about Krystle, she didn't come down to breakfast.  Joesph tells Blake that it will take time, but Blake thinks that enough time has past.

   Krystle is lounging in a chair staring out the window, while Jeannette, the maid talks to her about the French boutique calling about the shipment of silk knits, Krystle tells her to let them know that she won't be going into town today, Jeannette says that they would be happy to come to the house, but she tells her no.  Blake come in, Jeannette leaves, Blake reminds Krystle about the day they first meet.  He wants her to spend the day with him, she tells him to stop and that it's not him, it's how she feels, he wants to know how she feels.  She tells him that she feels useless and empty.  He says that it will pass.  He gives her a pearl necklace, she tells him that she could never wear it because she would always be reminded that he gave it to her for failing him.  He tells her that it's disappointing that they can't have any children, but there are tragedies in the paper everyday.  He wants her to try it on and come out with him for lunch, she tells him that she can't and she's sick.  He says that he can see that, and that he wants her to see Nick, because she needs help.  She says that he can't help her, he tells her that she needs to see him that this will be one problem that he will solve.

   Jeff joins Blake for breakfast, he tells him he wants him to call Washington and get the lawyers that they hired to help them find Rashid Ahmed, he is the key to getting Blake's oil out of the Middle East.  

   In Rome Alexis is brought to her suite at her favorite hotel, she asks for a bottle of her favorite champagne to be brought up, since she is expecting someone to join her later.

   Fallon is calling to set up a doctor's appointment, Jeff comes in and she hangs up the phone quickly, he asks her who she was talking to, she lies and tells him it's her hairdresser, he doesn't believer and wants to know who she is seeing.

   Jeff passes Steven in the hall he asks if he's seem Joesph, Steven is short with him and goes into the drawing room to make a phone call, he calls a girl for a date.  Jeff comes in and asks him if he's mad at him because he's working for Blake, Steven tells him that he's relieved that Jeff is the son that Blake should have had.  He tells Steven that things aren't great with him and Fallon, he tells him that she is seeing another guy, but doesn't know who it is, he tells him that he loves her and would fight for her if he know who to fight.  Steven offers to talk to her.

   Nick comes over to see Blake, he tells him that Krystle is getting worse, that she won't leave the house, and he wants him to take her on as a patient.  Nick tells him no, because she doesn't want his help.  Blake urges him to help.  Nick has a flashback to the hanging legs and tells Blake that he will do it.  (I think that this is how he's going to get back at Blake for what he think he's done to his family

   Krystle come into the library, and finds Nick pouring himself a drink (I would think he wouldn't want to drink on the job, but whatever).  He asks why she didn't come to his office like she was suppose to, she tells him that she forgot.  He tells her that when he first met her she was so lively and now she is so lifeless, but if she's happy the way she is then that's her business, he tells her that he will cancel their appointments if she wants him to, he tells her if she changes her mind to call him.

   Cecil has come to see Jeff at his office at Denver Carrington, he wants Jeff to come back to ColbyCo.  He tells him to think it over and goes to leave, but Jeff stops him telling him that he has thought it over and he won't come back.  Cecil tells him that he will try again, and he asks about Denver Carringtons new plans for extracting oil.  Jeff tells him that he won't be his spy and if he wants to know then he should ask Blake for himself.   Cecil literally runs into Claudia and helps her pick up all the papers that fell, he tells her that she looks good, she tells him that she feels better now that she is working.  He wants to get information from her and asks her to dinner, she agrees.  

   In Rome Alexis answers the door, it's Rashid Ahmed, he tells her she looks beautiful.  They toast to their past, she tells him it was sweet of him to come see her.  She kisses him he tells her she is the best businessman he's ever known and he wants to know what she wants now.  She tells him that he owes her a favor, she tells him its about 5 tankers of oil.  She tells him that they will talk tomorrow, and they kiss again.

   Sammy Jo is working on a car, she asks Steven about his doctors appointment.  She tells him that the truck needs a tune up.  He tells her that he's busy tonight, but that they will go out to the track soon.  He drives away, she tells Fallon that she likes her car.  Fallon asks when Sammy Jo's dad is coming to pick her up, she tells her that it will be soon.

   At the doctor's she tells Fallon that she is pregnant, she tells her that it's going to be a good pregnancy.  She wants to ask the doctor something.

   Claudia and Cecil are at a nice restaurant he asks why she went to work for Blake, she tells him because he offered, and because of Matthew, she tells him that Blake has people looking for Matthew and Lindsay.  He asks if they've had any luck, and then offers his help in searching for them.  

   Fallon, Jeff and Blake are in the drawing room, they are waiting to for Krystle.  Krystle comes down, she is wearing the pearls.  Fallon tells her about seeing Sammy Jo at the garage and how she thinks it pays to be a girl in the family, she say that you couldn't blame her for thinking that, and goes on to say that she saw Krystle get a car for getting pregnant and pearl for losing it, Jeff tells her to knock it off, (I don't think she meant to be mean by this for once), Krystle excuses herself and goes back upstairs.  Blake follows her, tells her that Fallon didn't mean it, he suggest that they go for a drive she tells him later, that she's tired and goes up to bed.  Jeff tells her that she did it again, Fallon tells him that she'll apologize tomorrow because she's got to go out.  Jeff asks who it is again, she suggests he follow her if he thinks she's cheating on him.

   Steven and his date are at the St. Denis Club, she thinks he's making stories, she thinks he's funny.  She suggests that they go to her place, as they leave they run into Blake.  After that encounter Blake needs a double bourbon.

   Fallon is in bed with Nick, she tells him that she is different with him, she wants him to respect her.  She tells him that he's the first grown up man, she tell him that she loves him and wants to marry him.  He tells her that she's only looking for a way out of an unhappy marriage.  She tells him that she is pregnant, it's not his baby.  She says that she would be a bad mother, he asks what Jeff thinks, she tells him that he won't know about it.  He tells her to think about this.  He tells her that he was married and his wife wasn't supposed to have any children but she did and it killed them both.  

   Jeff is given something for his hangover, Blake joins him at the table.  Blake isn't impresses with his son.  He tells him that he's seen Dotty with other men who pay for her services.  Blake tells him that he's going overboard.  Steven tells him that he's having a great time.  

   Joseph brings Blake the phone it's Alexis, she tells him that she found Rashid Ahmed, she won't tell him how she found him till he gets to Rome himself.  She tells him he can release the oil tankers, she doesn't know how he can do it.  He asks what's in it for him, she tells him 10%.  He tells her he can't leave Krystle, she tells him that he has to, but he can't tell anyone about the deal.  He tells her he'll call her when he gets into Rome.  Rashid Ahmed asks what Blake will do when he finds out that he's gone, she tells him that she will think of something.  

   Blake tells Krystle he is going to meet with Rashid Ahmed, he can't just send anyone, he'll be gone only a couple days.  He asks how her appointment with Nick went, she told him she cancelled it.  She insists she's getting better, but it will take time, she tells him she doesn't want Nick's help.  

   Fallon comes out of the shower and tells him she's ready to have that talk he's been wanting to have, she tells him that she can see how he sees her.  He tells her that he knows that she wasn't in love with him when she married him, she says that they should get a divorce.  He tells her about the phone call and he knows about her abortion that she scheduled, he tells her that they can get a divorce after she has the baby.

Final Thoughts:  What is Alexis planning, I think the makeup job on John Saxon is funny, he looks more like Sean Connery then someone from the Middle East.  I thought it was funny when Jeff told Fallon to knock it off, someone needs to do that more often, maybe Nick do her some good, but what she sees in him I don't know, to me he's not that good looking.  Steven was funny with that date of his, and Blake's facial expressions when they left the restaurant and at the table were hilarious.  And why does Blake suddenly believe Alexis, and why would he trust her, did he tell her he was looking for Rashid Ahmed, if I was him I would have been very suspicious.

Best Outfit:  I love that this is how she dresses for just hanging around the hotel room.

The Miscarriage

Season 2 Episode 7

Air Date:  December 16, 1981

Recap:  Krystle is being rushed to the hospital, she is in a lot of pain and is crying, while Blake is trying to tell her that everything will be alright.

   Fallon is still with Nick, she finds a picture of him and his younger brother.  He asks her if she is going to leave, but she doesn’t care how late it’s getting.  He wants her to go, but she doesn’t take any of his hints seriously, she tells him she wants to know what’s he’s hiding.

  Jeff gets to the hospital, he asks how Krystle is doing.  Blake asks him about Fallon, he tells him that she didn’t come home yet.  He tells Blake how sorry he is about what Cecil did then he tells him that he quit ColbyCo.  Blake wants him to come work at Denver Carrington, he tells him that none of his children are here, he like a son to Blake.  Jeff goes to get coffee, and while he’s gone Blake starts to remember moments with Krystle, where they are talking about having a baby, and about the baby.

   Alexis calls the hospital and tries to get information about how Krystle is doing, but they won’t tell her anything, and hang up on her, the funniest thing was when they asked her if she was family, she said no, but she’s the first Mrs. Carrington, so she has a right to know how Krystle is doing. 

   Sammy Jo and Steven are at a party, they are all friends of hers.  They are all jerks, and get him to go racing, by taunting him.

   At the hospital the doctor comes out and tells Blake that Krystle is fine, but she lost the baby.  She’s under sedation and doesn’t know about the baby yet, (I bet she really does, I mean she was says she was losing the baby in the ambulance).  The doctor gives Blake even more bad news, he tells him that Krystle won’t be able to have any more children.

   Fallon gets home and Alexis gets her to come over to her studio for coffee, she asks where Fallon’s been, she tells her she went for a long ride, but Alexis knows she was with a man, and tells her that she’s been in her place and wants her to be careful.  Fallon tells her to stay out of her business.

   Krystle wakes up screaming, Blake rushes to her side, she tells him that she promises to be more careful next time, and the nurse gives her another sedative.

   Fallon is pretending to be asleep when Jeff comes into the bedroom, he asks her where she was, she tells him a different story, she was swimming at the lake, he tells her that Blake was asking where she was, and tells her about Krystle and the baby.  She says that she’s sorry for Krystle, and that she will be going to the hospital later.

   Alexis joins Claudia by the pool, she’s digging for information about Krystle.  She tells her that Krystle lost the baby, Alexis is very sweet to bring up Matthew and Lindsay, and her testimony at Blake’s trial.  Claudia wants to know what Alexis wants with her. 

   Fallon joins Blake for breakfast, she tells him that she was at the movies, and that she’s sorry that she wasn’t at the hospital.  She says that she’s going to go to the hospital later.  Blake tells her to be gentle with Krystle and that she doesn’t know that she can’t have any more children.

   Steven is racing, he’s doing pretty well, until the car behind him starts hitting him, when he stops he tells Sammy Jo that he loves racing and that he loves her, she asks him to take her somewhere where they can be alone.   They go to the cabin, and she wants him to make love to her, but he tells her he can’t, she says that he told her that he loved her, but he says that he’s not in love with her. 

   Alexis joins Blake in the study, she tells him how sorry she is about the baby, she then tells him about Sammy Jo and Steven, she wants him to help her keep Sammy Jo away from Steven.  She asks if she can go get the gift she left for the baby, he says yes.

   Nick finds Claudia at the pool, he wants to know if she’s taking the job only so she can keep up with the investigation.   She gets upset with him, she tells him that she doesn’t love Matthew anymore, she hates him and she only wants to find him so she can fight him for custody of Lindsay.  

   The doctor is with Krystle, she asks when she can have another baby, he doesn't want to tell her, and suggests she takes things one day at a time, but she knows that he's keeping something from her, and I'm pretty sure she knows what it is.

   Joseph catches Alexis in Krystle and Blake's bedroom, she's going through Krystle's perfumes, he asks what she's doing there, she tells him that she just taking the gift back, she says she's sorry about the baby, but he doesn't believe it.

   Andrew comes to see Blake after returning from Washington, he doesn't have good news for Blake, the government won't help them get the oil tankers out of the Middle East.  Alexis eavesdrops on them and hears them talking about Rashid Ahmed, they don't know where to find him, but from the look on Alexis' face I think she might have a good idea where to look.

   Sammy Jo wants to know if Steven didn't want to sleep with her because she told him she was with other guys  He tells her that it doesn't matter, and that whoever gets her will be lucky.

   Alexis calls a friend, they make small talk, but she gets to the point and asks where she can find Rashid Ahmed.  

   Steven goes to Claudia's room, he tells her that he was almost going to sleep with someone, and he stopped because he was thinking of her.  He tells her that he loves her and wants to marry her.  She tells him that she doesn't love him and that she still loves Matthew.

   Steven goes to his room and finds Blake there, he talks to him about Sammy Jo, and Steven tells him that he's old enough to make his own decisions.  Blake tells Steven that Krystle lost the baby.

   Nick is with Krystle in her hospital room, he asks why she's giving up, and he's really understanding with her (I'm being sarcastic here, he's almost yelling at her).   When he leaves he meets Fallon outside the room, he tells her that he wants to see her again, but only when he wants to, she doesn't like this arrangement, and asks if Krystle is another of his women.

Final Thoughts:  I think this episode really shows how far we've come, Blake could only get a hold of Jeff, if it was today everyone would have had a cell phone and would have been to hospital once they got the news about Krystle.  I don't get Nick's idea of counseling, he seems to get upset with Claudia and now pretty much yelling at Krystle, dude she just lost her baby, if she wants to cry for Blake too she can, I know your holding this vendetta against him, but come on.  Fallon needs to stick to one story, she's going to get caught and then what's she going to do?

Best Outfit:  This night gown is something else, I don't see anyone really wearing something like this in real life, on TV they always where these fabulous night gowns.
