Bypass

Dallas
Season 1 Episode 9
Air Date: October 14, 1978 (1978-10-14)

Recap:  Ray and Jock are wrangling the cattle at the ranch, while Miss Ellie, Sue Ellen and Pam are at the meeting with the ladies committee.  Pam calls Bobby who's at the office.  She isn't enjoying the luncheon, and Bobby tells her she'll get used to them like you get used to avacados, which is a bit strange.
Bobby asks JR about some property the family owns, Bobby tells him he's got some idea, but JR isn't interested, they are having a meeting with two guys, but JR wants Bobby to go see Luke, Bobby wants to be apart of the meeting but JR tells him that he's running Ewing Oil and Bobby needs to do what he says.
So JR takes Jeb and Willie Joe out for drinks and who knows what else.
When Bobby gets to Lukes office, he finds that he's in a meeting.
The next day Sue Ellen is banging around the bedroom and wakes JR, she's made because he came home at 4 am.  She's getting ready for the women's meeting, she asks Miss Ellie if Pam is going to join them, she tells her that Pam has plans for the day.  Sue Ellen says that Pam just doesn't fit in.  Pam tells Bobby that she's going to have lunch with Liz, a friend who she used to work with at the department store.  Bobby wants to know why she is seeing so much of Liz.
Ray tells Jock and Bobby that he thinks Jock is working to hard.  Bobby tells Jock about the property and how he wants to start a consturction business.  Jock gets upset that Bobby wants to quit Ewing Oil, and tells him that he needs to stand up to JR.  Bobby tells him that he's got a meeting in Houston.
JR is trying to do something for his hangover when Jock comes over to him, he asks why Bobby is being excluded from the business JR gives him some line about how he still is learning the business.  Jock tells JR that he wants Bobby more involved, while JR is making up some other excuse, Jock grabs his chest, JR rushes to his side and calls for an ambulance.
At the women's meeting Miss Ellie gets a phone call from a frantic Lucy who doesn't know who was in the ambulance.
Pam gets the phone call about Jock during her lunch with Liz.  The family meet up with JR at the hospital, JR says that it's Bobby's fault their father had a heart attack, though Pam says that he was the one arguing with Jock when it happened.  The families doctor wants to move Jock to a different hospital where he can do further test.
Willlie Joe adn Jeb are waiting outside the hospital for JR, before they can go to him Bobby and JR fight about their father.
When Bobby leaves they come up to JR, they want to see the "Red File," he tells them that he doesn't want to talk about business now with his father in the hospital, but they are firm.  Bobby goes into Jock's room, but he's sleeping, he tells him he's sorry and kisses his forehead.
The next day Bobby is helping Ray on the ranch.  Pam tells Miss Ellie that Bobby feels responisble for what happened.  Miss Ellie goes to the hospital and sits with Jock, he tells her that if anything happens to him, she needs to keep the family together.
At the ranch Pam rides out to see Bobby, she asks him why he didn't go see his father, (I guess it doesn't count that he was in the room while he was asleep) she tells him that he shouldn't feel guilty.  Jock has some old friend with him when Bobby comes to visit.  Jock asks about the consturction business he was talking about, he says he put it on the shelf for now.  Jock tells him he heard that he's working the ranch with Ray.  Jock tells him that he doesn't want him to leave the company, and that he knows that JR doesn't tell him everything that goes on with the business.
JR is at the bank removing the "Red File."
At the ranch Sue Ellen is walking around the house like she's the mistress of the manor.  Pam catches her, and Sue Ellen tells her that when she takes over she'll through Pam out.  Miss Ellie overhears this and tells Sue Ellen that no one is taking over anytime soon.
JR has brought the "Red File" to Willie Joe and Jeb, they are concerened about Jock saying that no one can drill on part of Southfork, JR tells them that's just something his father says to make his mother feel better.  He shows them the file, and it's a copy of Jock's will, stating that he gives JR the rights to drill on the land.  They joke with JR that the will is a forgery, he gets mad about this, so I think that it's probably near the truth.
The doctor tells Miss Ellie that Jock needs surgery, and that they need to do it right away.  The family waits at the hosptial.  The surgery is successful and they are all waiting for him outside when he is released.
Final Thoughts:  I loved the scene when Sue Ellen is waltzing around the house like she owns it, and the dialouge between her and Pam is so funny.  We finds out what the "red file" is, and we know now that JR is up to no good, and I wonder how long before he gets caught.
Best Outfit:  While this isn't terrible it's just blah.
Fight Count: 1 1/2 (Bobby vs JR)
