Triangle

Dallas
Season 1 Episode 16
Air Date:  November 26, 1978

Recap:  Lucy and her date Joe are with Pam and Bobby at The Mustang Club, they are listening to a singer.  Lucy thinks she’s great, and is surprised that Pam has heard her before.  They see her with Ray and go over to meet her.  Her name is Garnet McGee.  After Garnet and Ray go to dance, Lucy and Joe leave, from the look on her face, she looks jealous.  Pam doesn’t like Garnet and tells Bobby that she is and always was an opportunist.
At Garnet’s apartment, Ray is in her pull out sofa bed, and he is telling her about working on Southfork Ranch.  He tells her that he loves her, she doesn’t reciprocate the sentiment, and talk to him about her ambitions.
Lucy tells the family over dinner that she wants to be a singer.  JR and Jock put there foot down and that she won’t embarrass the family by making a spectacle of herself.
Bobby and Pam talk about Ray and Garnet, he tells Pam that she needs to stay out of Ray’s business, she tells him that she’s known him for so long that she can’t help it.
At Bobby’s party Ray brings Garnet as his guest.  Bobby asks her to dance, leaving Ray with Lucy, she wants to dance with him, but Jock calls him over.
Pam and Garnet find Pam, Miss Ellie takes Bobby away to talk to a guest, and Garnet tells Pam she made it good marring Bobby.  Pam realizes that Garnet is just using Ray till something better comes along.
Ray brings Jock over and introduces him to Garnet, they go and dance.  JR notices her and asks Lucy who she is.  She tells him she’s with Ray, so JR goes to Ray and tells him that he would like to meet her.  Ray tells him that it’s not like that, he loves this one.
JR cut in and dances with Garnet, Ray doesn’t look happy about this.
The next morning Ray runs in to Lucy and tells him that she and JR don’t like him seeing Garnet.
Jock tells Ray that he’s impressed with his girl, and what his plans are.  Ray tells him that he wants to ask her to marry him, Jock wants to know if he’ll leave Southfork.  Ray says that he doesn’t think so.  Jock gives him land on Southfork, for his 20th anniversary working on the ranch.
JR and Garnet are having lunch together, it looks like something better came along.  He drives her back to her apartment, and he wants to know if she’s going to invite him in, she doesn’t.
At the club Ray is watching Garnet singing (this song is so much worse than the first, it’s really screechy.  It would have been a good idea to get someone who could sing) JR is also there.
JR works things so that Jock will send Ray to Odessa to buy a bull.  Lucy knows that JR is up to something.
Ray stops by Garnet’s to tell her he has to go out of town, he wants her to come with him, so they can get married.  She tells him that she has to get her career going before she’ll get married, she reminds him when he asks if she doesn’t want to marry him.  She tells him to go to Odessa but to hurry back.
Garnet goes to JR’s office, she knows that he arranged that last minute trip of Ray’s.  JR tells her that he’s going to help her with a career.  He wants 25% and exclusive rights to her whenever he wants.  She comes back with 10% and he agrees.  As she is leaving the office, Bobby is coming out of his, he asks the secretary if that was Garnet.
Ray is with the man JR said wanted to sell the bull, he has no idea where that rumor started, but the bull isn’t for sale.  Ray knows exactly what happened, and goes back home.
Lucy goes to JR’s office and finds the “exclusive agreement’ contract, when JR returns to his office she tries to get him to help her with her dreams of becoming a singer.  He tells her he won’t help her, and when she tells him she’ll show Jock, Sue Ellen, and Ray that contract, he asks her if she’s blackmailing him, and tells her she’s a tramp just like her mother.
JR goes to Garnet’s apartment with the contract.
At Southfork, Miss Ellie goes into Sue Ellen’s room and asks where JR is, she tells her that he’s probably not coming home tonight since there’s some guy in town.  Miss Ellie tells her that JR is very lucky to have such an understanding wife.
Garnet and JR are playing cards in bed, she wins that hand, and is very pleased with herself.  She asks if he should go home, but he tells her that Sue Ellen is very understanding.  He wants her to break things off with Ray or he will do it for her.
Ray is back and tells Jock that JR was wrong and the bull isn’t for sale, Jock can’t understand how JR got it wrong, and is mad because it was a wasted trip.  Ray goes to his room, and Lucy comes in and wants to resume their relationship, he tells her that they are over and he shouldn’t have let things begin, and he just wants to be friends.  She gets mad and tells him about JR and Garnet and the “exclusive agreement” she saw in the office.  Ray storms out.  Pam hears Lucy screaming for Ray to stop that she only said it to make him mad.  When Pam comes out to see what’s going on he says that Bobby got her and he’ll be damned if JR will get Garnet.  Pam goes and tells Bobby that JR is at Garnet’s and Ray is on his way.
Ray is getting dressed and when Ray comes into the room he catches them kissing.  Ray punches JR and JR can’t hold him off, he’s being thrown about the room.  Bobby burst in and pulls Ray off.  Ray tells them that they think that they can buy everything and that he’s going to leave Southfork, as he is leaving Garnet tells him that she told him how it would be, and he tells her that she is no better than they are.  Bobby follows Ray.
JR gets up from the bed and goes to leave.  Garnet tells him that the contract is legal and he better not try to get out of it, or she’ll tell about the “exclusive agreement.”
Bobby is trying to talk Ray from leaving the Ranch, when JR joins them he tells Ray he wants him off the ranch.  Ray tells him that he was going to leave, but now he’s going to stay and if he wants him to leave then he’ll have to find a way for Jock to fire him.  He tells JR he’s going to be watching him, he leaves.
Bobby tells JR that he’s got a knack from making every friend he ever had into an enemy.
The next morning Lucy rides over to Ray and tells him how sorry she is, and wants to know if they can still be friends, and that she doesn’t have many friends, he turns to look at her, and he kind of smiles, and she knows that he’s forgiven her.
Final Thoughts:  This episode was pretty good, the acting was good.  As I said earlier I think that they should have gotten an actress that could sing, because the singing wasn't good.  And really she wasn't that stunning that I would think that JR would want her that bad, the girls he's been with have all been better looking so far.  I liked that Ray stood up to JR and told him that he's going to stay at Southfork.  There's a lot of drama building and there's still 13 episodes left of the season.
Best Outfit: It has to be this one, it's got to be the most unflattering thing I've seen, the pants must be really high and the shirt is too tight, yuck.
Before they were stars: Kate Mulgrew from Star Trek: Voyager
Fight Count: 1 (Ray vs JR)
