Double Wedding

Dallas
Season 1 Episode 11
Air Date:  October 21, 1978 (1978-10-21)

Recap:  Pam is giving Bobby a massage, and he tells her that he doesn't like her working, but he understands why she wants to.
Outside Digger's house there's a guy watching from his car, he approaches her Aunt and asks where Pam is, she tells him that Pam is married.
Bobby is going to meet with the building committee for The Home for Wayward Boys, Sue Ellen is apart of this charity.
Digger is on his way to the bar and picks up a drunk he knows along the way.  He eventually runs out of money but that guy who was hanging outside the house is there and buys him a drink.
At the site that Bobby wants the to build on he is showing the committee around, the Reverend is more interested in why Bobby and Pam haven't gone to church.
Back at the bar Digger talks to the man about his daughter, who is lost to him.  He drives Digger home and comes inside for another drink.  Bobby tells Pam that the committee liked his plans for the building.
At "The Store" (yes that's the name of the store that Pam works at, I wonder if when they were writing the outline the just called it the store and when it came time to write the script they just for got, it seems pretty lazy to me and reminds me of the names of the stores in the Sweet Valley books (see post Sweet Valley High #16: Rags to Riches), that guy asks if Pam is there, an employee tells him that Pam just left.  He catches up with Pam and she doesn't recognize him.  He says that she should recognize her own husband, she suddenly recognizes him.  They haven't seen each other in 10 years, and she tells him the marriage was annulled, she sent him the papers, but he said he never got them in Vietnam.  He tells her where he's staying so she can come and see him.
Pam calls Bobby but he's not home, so she calls Cliff, and tells him she needs to see him right away.  She tells him what's going on and of course he thinks it's funny, but tells her not to worry because there should be a copy, he realizes that Bobby doesn't know about this and that's why she wants the copy to prove it to him.  They can't go to the record office because it's closed now, but Maggie should have a copy.
Ed goes to the Ewing office and tells the secretary he wants to see Mr Ewing, well I think we know how this is going to turn out.  He goes into JR's office and tells him that he's married to his wife, JR says Sue Ellen, and Ed says no Pam.  He shows him the licence.  JR tells him that Pam is married to his brother, but that he'll help him anyway he can.
At the house Maggie can't find the annulment paper, Digger tells them that he has it.  He finds the box where he kept the copy, but it's not there.  Pam asks what should she do, Cliff tells her not to Bobby, and Digger says to tell him that Digger has the papers.
When Pam gets home and JR tells everyone about Ed coming to the office and about Pam's marriage, Bobby acts like he knew all about it, but once they are alone he lets her know that he's not happy.  She tells him that the marriage was annulled, he wants to know if she's got the papers, she tells him that she and Cliff are going to get the copy tomorrow, he says that he's going to go too.
The next day they meet Cliff.  The man helping them tell them that there is no record, Bobby wants to pay him to keep looking, he asks if he's offering him a bribe, Cliff stops him and tells them that he'll go to Fort Worth and go to Digger's lawyer's secretary, he died, but she still has all his papers, he should have a copy.
Bobby goes to Ed's hotel and asks him how much money he wants to go away, he tells Bobby that he only wants Pam, Bobby is about to hit him, but stops after Ed says that the papers will love it if he tells them that he hit him.  After Bobby leaves the guy from the record office come to Ed and wants to know what he's gotten himself into.  Ed says that since there's a split between the two brothers, he's going to get a lot of money out of this scheme, and that he'll be able to pay off those bookies with his half.
Sue Ellen tells Bobby that the committee isn't happy with the news about Pam.  Cliff come over to Southfork for Pam, he tell them that they couldn't find a copy and that Digger must have made a mistake.
They go and talk to Digger, who is sober, he swears that he had the papers.  Bobby says that Ed has been out of the hospital for 2 years, so why is he coming to them now?  Digger makes Cliff take him to Ed's hotel, he wants to talk to him.  Digger doesn't recognize Ed.  He's in a hurry because Pam called and asked to meet him, he tells Digger that he took his wife away and calls him a drunk.  Cliff wants to know why he called Digger a drunk, because when Digger took Pam away he wasn't drinking at the time.  Digger realizes what happened, so they go to Bobby and tell him that Ed must have taken Digger's copy.  They leave Digger in JR's office and go back to the record office.
This time Bobby puts the pressure on the man and he tells them that he deleted the file, but he kept a copy for himself just in case.
Pam meets Ed in the park and tells him that the Ewings threw her out with, he wants to know how much money they gave her, she tells him that they didn't give her a penny, she wants him to take her in, he says of course.
Bobby and Cliff go to Ed's hotel and find that he left.
At Southfork Bobby tells the family about how they found out that Ed was just trying to get money out of them.  We also learn that Bobby has got the contract to build the Home for Wayward Boys.  JR wants to know why Digger was in his office, and Bobby says that he couldn't have left Digger with the building committee, everyone laughs at that, but JR says he doesn't see why not.
Final Thoughts:  This was a great episode.  That guy was just really shady and you knew that there was something else going on, if he really loved Pam as much as he said he did then he had plenty of time to get her.  I like how Bobby and Cliff worked together, and I like how it really was Pam who got Ed to get out of town.
Best Outfit:  This pattern reminds me of curtains, and doesn't really seem very appropriate for work, maybe it was a weekend or casual Friday.
Fight Count:  I don't think there really was one in this episode.
