Choices



Knots Landing
Season 2 Episode 10
Airdate:  January 29, 1981
Recap:  Judy calls for Gary, she wants to know when they can meet, Gary isn’t giving her a definite answer, when Val walks in, he agrees to meet her for lunch so they can talk.  Val asks him what that was about, he tells her that it was work, she tells him that he is working too hard.
   Abby goes into Gary’s office and sees the paper work that shows that he managed to sell all the stolen parts, and with her help Sid will never find anything out.  Later on Judy walks into the dealership and Abby watches as they go into Gary’s office.  Gary tells her that it isn’t a good idea for them to meet where he works.  She asks him to skip the AA meeting he is supposed to go to with Earl that night, so they can spend sometime together.  He agrees to, and Abby walks into the office, she asks Gary if she can speak with him for a moment.  While she is waiting for him Richard comes and reminds her that she was going to go to lunch with him, but she tells him that she can’t, that something came up.  
   Linda asks Sid if she can put up a poster for a car race in the front window, he tells her that it’s fine, he says that he would like to go see it, and she asks him if he would go with her.  He tells her that he will think about it.
   Abby calls a restaurant and pretends to be Gary’s secretary and tires to make reservations, they tell her that Gary already made them, and she finds out what time Gary will be there.  After she hangs up she calls Val and asks her what she is doing for dinner.  After work Abby stops by Gary’s office and pretends that she doesn’t have a ride home, and Gary offers to take her home.  
   Linda asks Sid if he thought about the trip, he tells her that he needs to talk to Karen first.  She seems surprised about his.
   Abby tells Gary that she is sorry for walking in on him and Judy, he tells her that it isn’t what she thinks.
Richard stops Abby when she walks to her house, they arrange to meet later when she gets back from dinner with Val.
   Sid tells Karen about the race, and tells her that she and Michael would like it, she tells him that she doesn’t want to go, and doesn’t think that it would be good for Michael to spend so much time in the car, then to sit and watch the race, he wouldn’t be able to use up his energy.  He tells her that he didn’t think about it.  She tells him that she thinks that he should go, but he needs to tell her what he decides so she can make plans. 
   Laura asks Richard if he is going to eat dinner, he asks abut Jason, and she tells him that he is spending the night with a friend.  She tells him that they haven’t been alone for a long time, but he isn’t interested.  She tells him that she tired.  
   After dinner Abby suggests that they have a drink before going home.  Val tells her that Gary will be home, but Val tells her that she should let him wait on her for a change.
   Gary tells Judy that she needs to look at things from Earl’s point of view, but she tells him that she is tired of doing that, she asks him what side he is on.  She tells him that she doesn’t want to be an unfaithful wife anymore.  Gary asks her what keeping her from leaving Earl, she tells him that she doesn’t know what to expect from him, she tells him that she wants him.  Gary tells her that he can’t leave Val.  Judy asks him why he is her lover then.  Just then Abby and Val walk in, Abby and Val see them, Judy looks up and sees them too.  Val and Abby go over to the table, Judy tells Val that she called Gary to come and meet her, she tells her that she and Earl are going to get a divorce.  Val walks away, Gary follows her and Abby sits down with Judy.  Val gets into a cab just as Gary comes out.  Just asks her if it was a coincidence that they showed up, she tells her no.  Judy asks her what she got to gain from this, Abby tells her that she isn’t the subject of the conversation.  Abby tells her that she is the complete opposite of Val and that is what is interests Gary.  Judy tells her that Gary has outgrown Val, and that she will be the one to wreck the marriage, but she will be the one to get Gary.
   When Gary gets home, he finds Val on the sofa, he tells her that Earl and Judy had a fight, and that he took her to the restaurant to talk, he tells her that he thought she understood what he was doing.  She tells him that she does.  He tells her that he will drop them if that is what she wants, she tells him not to.  Gary tells her that he knows how it looks, but he loves her.
   Richard hears Abby get home, and goes over to her house, Laura gets up when she hears the door close, she sees Richard walking over to Abby’s.  He looks up and sees her watching.
   The next morning Abby goes to Gary’s office, she asks him how Val is doing.  She tells him that she would be worried of he was her husband, and that she is there if he needs her.
   Judy goes over to see Val, she tells her that she thinks that they need to talk, Val agrees and lets her in.  Judy tells her that she doesn’t know what to say once she is inside.  Val tells her that she wants Gary.  Judy tells her that she does too, she tells her that they have been seeing each other, and that they are lovers.  Judy tells her that she is going to leave Earl and she and Gary will be together.  Val tells her that she needs to leave.  Judy asks her what she and Gary have in common anymore.
   Linda asks Sid about the race again.  He tells her that he can’t go, and explains that he needs to spend time with Michael because the weekends are the only time he can give Karen a break from taking care of Michael, and he feels like he owes it to them to stay home.  He tells her that Karen said he should go, but he didn’t think it was right.  Shea ask him if he and Karen always talk like this.  She comments that they have a very modern relationship. 
   Gary and Val go over to Sid and Karen’s for dinner, it’s pretty quite, and Gary tries to make conversation, Val is picking at her food, when Karen offers to fix her something else, she gets upset.  The men start talking about work, and when Karen tires to bring Val into the conversation, Val excuses herself, Gary gets up and goes to her, and asks her what’s wrong, and she tells him that Judy came to see her today.  She leaves the house, and Gary apologizes, Sid tells him that he doesn’t need to apologize to them, he should go after Val.
Laura gets home, and asks about Jason, Richard tells her that he’s in bed, and tells her that he is going out.  She asks him if Abby is expecting him, and tells him to go ahead and go, she doesn’t care anymore.  She tells him that she thinks that they need to go see someone to help them with their marriage.  He tells her that he’s got someone to see, next door, and she doesn’t charge anything.
   Gary finds Val at the beach, he apologizes and she tells him that she believes him, he tells her that he doesn’t know how it happened, and tells her that it doesn’t have anything to do with them.  Val tells him not to lie to himself, she asks him where they went wrong, she goes through all the things that they went through.  Gary tells her that they are good, and that she is doing fine here.  He tells her that he is the one to blame, she tells him that she is what went wrong, he tells her that he loves her, and she smacks him.  He looks at her with surprise, she hugs him, and they walk back towards the car.  
   Judy goes into the dealership the next day and goes to Gary’s office.  After Abby leaves, she closes the door, he asks her why she did it.  She tells him that she felt that Earl and Val had the right to know, he asks her if she told Earl too, she tells him that she iddn’t.  She tells him that he lead her to believe that he loved her, he tells her that he won’t leave Val, because she reminds him of how far he has come.  She tells him that that is pathetic and walks out.  She tells Abby good lunch.  Abby walks in to his office and asks him if he is ready for her.
Final Thoughts:  I'm so glad that this plot is over, I did not like it at all, I don't think we need to have everyone in the cul de sac having an affair.
Best Outfit:  Gary's turtleneck is really tight, it might not be so bad if it was not flesh colored.
